Third Form Reading List

Suggestions for Summer Reading from Harriet Cant, Head of English

Download Reading List

At Sherborne, one of our core values is that of curiosity. To that end, we hope that over the summer your son will nurture their curiosity by reading for pleasure at home. When boys read, whether fiction or non-fiction, classic novel or graphic novel, they are opening doors to new ideas, perspectives and questions.

The Third Form reading list offers a wide range of books, ensuring there is something suitable for every reader. By Third Form, many boys are ready for more mature content but please do check online reviews or speak to me directly if you are unsure of the suitability of a text for your son. If you would like additional recommendations for your son, I would be more than happy to offer further suggestions.

Parents often ask me how they can support their son's English studies and my answer is always the same: encourage them to read for pleasure.
Cyber-Security

Important Information regarding Cyber-Security

Please be aware that independent schools and their parents can be the target of cyber-criminal activity with the aim of diverting fee payments to fraudulent bank accounts. This is typically done through scam emails involving school fees and their payment, offering significant discounts if paid by a certain date, which look convincing at first glance, but provide different bank details from our own and are not sent from a correct email address.

Sherborne would never offer fee remission in this way and we will never change the School’s bank details without formal notice in at least two separate ways.  Should you receive any form of communication purporting to be from us and making a time-limited payment request or advising you of such a change, please telephone the School on the usual number (not that contained in any email or letter) and check with our admissions or finance teams before making any payments.  In short, please be vigilant and always check - if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

OPRO Mouthguard Fitting

Mouthguard OPRO fitting Information from Tom Taylor, Director of Sport

Next year your son may be taking part in rugby or hockey and following national governing body guidelines, we strongly recommend that he wears a custom-made mouthguard. Therefore, in the interest of your child's safety, we have invited OPRO, who specialise in the provision of custom-made mouthguards, to visit the School at the start of term. On these days the OPRO dental team will take impressions of all students who want to be fitted and the finished mouthguards will then be delivered back to school approximately 7-10 working days later.

OPRO offer a number of benefits with their service:

  • Our exclusive school design mouthguards are priced at £46.99
  • Buy one mouthguard and get a second mouthguard for half price
  • Your child will receive a complimentary Snap-Fit mouthguard at the dental visit so they have something to use whilst they wait for their Custom mouthguard to be delivered
  • Each mouthguard comes with a dental warranty which covers up to £22,500
  • Your child’s name and the school name will be included on the mouthguard and case
  • OPRO store all of the models in case a replacement is required
  • All mouthguards carry the CE mark

If you have any questions about the products or OPRO’s services, please contact their customer care team directly on 01442 430690 or email info@oprogroup.com

School's Device Scheme

Information technology is a part of everyday life, providing the opportunity to learn new skills, to source and process information, to communicate with people all over the globe and a vast array of other important academic, social, and other life skills. Modern employers require young graduates to be ICT literate and conversant with modern applications. It is, therefore, imperative that Shirburnians not only develop robust IT skills, but that they are fully digitally literate – i.e., conversant in the many ways that information technology can facilitate creativity and achievement within a learning setting. Further details and costs can be found below.
