Lyon House (g)

Ask Lyon boys what makes the House special and they will tell you about the close relationships that exist across year groups. This is partly a function of the House’s location, on the edge of Sherborne’s town centre and a 10-minute walk from School.

Lyon boys relish that distance from the main campus. They use the time moving between locations to reflect, chat, and unwind. And because it gives them a real sense of identity as a House, the relationships between boys of different ages run deep and wide.

Evidence of this is seen in Lyon’s ability to pull together as a community and achieve great things. Witness the epic Lyon to Lyons cycle ride completed by members of the House in 2017. This raised a staggering amount of money for charity, and has become a part of Lyon’s folklore.

With ample space to let off steam in the large garden, boys relish their time in Lyon.

It is a House with its own sense of character, which nonetheless reinforces the wider ideals and values of Sherborne as a whole.

Housemaster: James Hull

James Hull came to Sherborne in 2017 and has very successfully overseen and developed Sherborne’s offsite visits and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award provision.

James brings a wealth of experience to his role of Housemaster of Lyon House, having previously been Housemaster of Wallace House.

Prior to joining the School, James completed a degree in Education and a PGCE and has worked in a range of educational settings, teaching pupils from prep through to Further Education. Immediately prior to starting at Sherborne, James taught at Kingswood Prep School in Bath and, with his wife Hannah, was an Assistant Houseparent. James and Hannah have two children, Joshua and Katy, who currently attend Sherborne Prep.
